Aggreko plc is the global leader in the rental of power generation and temperature control equipment and has been supporting Book Aid International since 2006. Over the years they have supported our projects in Cameroon, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda. Thanks to their funding, we have sent books from the UK in a vast range of subject areas and have provided grants for local book purchase.
Aggreko generously renewed their support of Book Aid International in 2010 and their Marketing Communications Specialist Jana Single joined our Joint Head of Fundraising and Communications Lesley Pinder, on a field trip to Kenya in late 2009. As well as giving Jana the opportunity to see our work in action, one of the main reasons for the trip was to record some footage for a number of new Book Aid International films which Aggreko had kindly agreed to part fund.
Jana and Lesley covered many hundreds of miles during their trip which included visits to a community library in the Mathare North slum and a mobile school library around Nairobi. They also visited the site of what will be Gacharegeini Community Library in the Maranga District.

Jana was really impressed with her three day trip saying “visiting some of Book Aid International’s projects in Kenya was a fantastic experience. It enabled me to see first hand what great work the charity, and its partners, are undertaking in sub-Saharan Africa. I am incredibly proud that Aggreko is supporting such great work and such a worthwhile charity.”
Lesley added: “It’s great for us to have the opportunity to show one of our corporate partners what we do. Aggreko has been so supportive of our work and we’re delighted Jana joined us on this trip to see how books really can change lives. The films Aggreko has part funded will be enormously helpful in promoting the work of Book Aid International and we simply couldn’t have produced them without their support”.
