A few months ago we had a very empty warehouse here in Camberwell, and were in real need of more books to send out to sub-Saharan Africa. We rang round lots of our publisher friends to see if anybody could help us fill up our shipments with books.

Some of the many pallets donated by Pearson! |
We are delighted to report that we have had an unprecedented response! Extra book donations have been pouring in from Pearson Education, Hachette Livre, Elsevier, Penguin & DK and Random House Children's Books.
Pearson Education are in the process of sending us one of the biggest donations of books Book Aid International has ever received: 120 pallets!
We usually only have space for about 20-30 pallets at a time, so we have been whizzing around on the forklift making extra space and are having to receive the books in shifts!

Mills & Boon books ready to be packed up |
This autumn we have also received a steady stream of books from the British Library, John Wiley & Sons, Mills & Boon, Nelson Thornes, Profile Books, Rising Stars and Sage.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all those who have helped us get top-quality book donations out to the developing world in 2008. A book is for life, not just for Christmas!
