books change lives launch

Monday 8 September saw the launch of Book Aid International’s new books change lives strategy and fundraising campaign. Hosted by celebrated author Sebastian Faulks, the packed audience heard from Book Aid International Director, Clive Nettleton, Director of Zambia Open Community Schools, Harriet Miyato, and pupils from St George’s school who read letters from children in Africa about how books changed their lives.

Sebastian Faulks was particularly moved by one letter from a child in Zanzibar, saying:

"As I tried to put into words how I feel about books, the words were found for me by the young child from Zanzibar who said 'I think books change lives because they taught me who I am, where I come from and where I am going.' You can’t say much better than that"

The books change lives strategy outlines Book Aid International’s plans for the next three years which focus on supporting literacy, education and development. Download a copy of our strategy.

In order to achieve our ambitious aims and to deliver this vital work, including sending 750,000 books a year to sub-Saharan Africa by 2010, Book Aid International needs to raise 5million over the next 3 years. More than ever before. To find out how you can help donate click here.
