New Internationalist

Book Aid International teamed up with The New Internationalist magazine this summer to publish a special Books Change Lives supplement in their July/August issue.

Featuring articles by Book Aid International partners in sub-Saharan Africa and the Occupied Territories of Palestine as well as a short story by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the supplement served to demonstrate the huge impact that books can have. The supplement begins with an article by Professor Kingo Mchombu, a vice president of Book Aid International and leading scholar on knowledge sharing and international development, and also includes testimonies from refugee camps, countries ravaged by conflict, community schools, feminist organisations and marginalised communities.

You can read three of the articles published in the New Internationalist below. (Articles are in PDF format and will open in a new window)

Why Books? by Professor Kingo Mchombu.

Books for development.  The information is out there - but how can Southern hemisphere organisations get a hold of it?

Education is not a luxury.  Opportunities to learn give refugees in Kenya hope for the future.
