Book Aid International is delighted to announce the appointment of Nigel Newton, founder and Chief Executive of Bloomsbury Publishing, as the charity’s first President since its founder, Hermione, Countess of Ranfurly, in 2001.
Says James Arnold-Baker, Book Aid International Chair: “We are absolutely delighted that Nigel has agreed to take on the role of President of Book Aid International. Nigel has been a staunch supporter of our work over the years. We all very much look forward to working with him.”
Bloomsbury Publishing was launched at Frankfurt Book Fair in 1986. Having built a reputation as a fiction publisher, Bloomsbury then expanded into non-fiction and children’s books as well as the US and European market. Authors published by Bloomsbury include Margaret Atwood, John Irving, Michael Ondaatje and J K Rowling.
“I am honoured to be appointed as Book Aid International’s President” says Nigel. “I believe wholeheartedly in the charity’s efforts to support literacy and education, and in the power of books to help people. I am a long-term supporter of the charity and look forward to being more involved in future.”
