Who we are

Book Aid International is a small charity, employing just 20 paid staff, all based in our South London warehouse and office.  But we are very lucky to have the generous support of around 20 volunteers, many of whom join us regularly in the warehouse to stamp, sort and pack books destined for partner countries.

We are governed by a Board of voluntary Trustees, lead by a Chair, who set strategy and oversee the delivery of each strategy and annual plan.  The Board meets regularly with the Director and the Management Team, who report on progress against the planned activities.  The Board also provide professional advice and assistance when necessary.

Our Royal Patron is His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, K.G., K.T.

Management team

Director - Clive Nettleton
Reporting directly to the Board, Clive is the person who is responsible for our overall success.  On a day-to-day basis he works most closely with the Management Team, each of whom are responsible for delivering on a specific set of responsibilities under the Book Aid International strategy.

Head of Programmes and Operations - Rob Sarjant
The programmes and operations team manage the substantial operation of handling all the incoming and outgoing books - half a million of which are sorted and shipped to partners every year. They also develop and manage all our projects working with partners to support literacy development, local publishing and development. Rob's team works very closely both with all the generous supporters (especially UK publishers) who provide hundreds of thousands of brand new books to us, and with in-country partners to ensure that the books are headed where they are most needed.

Head of Fundraising and Communications - Jacqui Scott
Book Aid International is completely dependent on the generosity of individuals, companies and trusts for our income. We are lucky to be able raise over a million pounds each year for our work, but each year we need to work hard with funders and other supporters to keep this up.  Jacqui's team is also responsible for raising awareness amongst the public and the media of the importance of our work.
