Sudan

Book Aid International works with the Africa Educational Trust in Southern Sudan. We support four Resource and Open Learning Centres in Rumbek, Juba, Yambio and Panyagor, and a mobile library scheme to schools in each area.

Southern Sudan is recovering from a long civil war. Schools have a very limited number of classrooms, little furniture, virtually no equipment and there are scarcely any books, including textbooks. We only began providing books two years ago but already our work is making a difference:

"The books are very good for building the capacity of the teachers. If possible we would like a permanent library and a sufficient number of books." James Makur Mayom, Head Teacher, Baraliop Primary School.
