Tetley

The lovely people at Tetley are one of our newest corporate supporters.

In 2011 Tetley’s Farmers First Hand, a unique social media campaign that connects tea drinkers with tea producers around the world, ran a Facebook campaign in support of education; for every new fan liking their page, they donated £1 to support education in Malawi.  They kindly chose to donate the money raised through the campaign to Book Aid International projects in Malawi, where we are working to raise levels of literacy and education.

While on a visit to a Farmers First Hand project in November 2011, their Sustainability Manager, Ria Kearney, felt it was the ideal opportunity to visit the community library in Blantyre supported by Book Aid International.  Ria said: “We wanted to see for ourselves one of the locations where the books we funded had been allocated. Whilst there I met with the regional librarian, Nancy Phiri, and her colleagues who showed me around the library and spoke enthusiastically about the benefit of Book Aid International’s books to the users of the library. Despite being a sunny, Friday afternoon the library was full, with people of all ages making use of the books on offer for both studies and pleasure, and more outside reading in the sunshine”.

“What’s fantastic about books and making them available in libraries is that they can be read and read and read again, benefiting many readers many times over.  And what was evident on visiting the library in person is the importance of children and young people being able to read and access books so they develop the habit of reading and learning from an early age, a habit that stays with them for life”.

Thank you to everyone at Tetley and to Tetley’s Farmers First Hand.
