Book clubs

If you run a book club or reading group, then why not organise an event to share your love of books and raise money so communities in Africa can enjoy books too!

In sub-Saharan Africa more than half the population earns less than a dollar a day – which means books are a luxury very few can afford. Even those who go to school can fall back into illiteracy when they leave, because they don’t have access to reading materials.

This is why libraries are so important.  They help people to gain access to the books and information they need and are the heart of the community – places to meet and share ideas.

How you can make a difference

There are many ways your group can get involved. From holding a bake for books day to organising a book reading, perhaps with a local celebrity or author!

Why not charge members of the book group £1 if they liked the book, £2 if they didn’t like it and £3 if they didn’t finish it – it’s a simple way to fundraise whilst enabling many communities in Africa to begin a life long journey of reading. For more fun ways to get involved take a look at our ideas page.

We love to hear your stories, so don’t forget to tell us about your activities as we can feature them on our blog, twitter or facebook page.

Whatever you choose to do, we’re here to help! For more information or to receive a fundraising pack in the post, please get in touch or call 020 7733 3577.
