We have around 20 staff who work from the UK, an East Africa Representative based in Nairobi and a Zambia Country Representative based in Kitwe, led are led by our Director, Alison Hubert. We have four main operational teams.
The Programmes team, led by Samantha Thomas Chuula, delivers all our programmes in Africa and beyond. They are responsible for both acquiring and sending all the books that we provide to our partners – at least half a million every year. They also work with partners on the range of projects that we deliver – including training, refurbishments and book purchasing. The Fundraising team, led by Hannah Watson, raises all our income. We have no grants from the British government and so every penny we need to undertake our work has to be raised from voluntary sources like individuals, grant making trusts, companies and community groups. Our Operations team, led by Simon Mercer is based in our warehouse in Camberwell and oversees all the logistics of our book provision to libraries in Africa as well as liaising with the UK publishers who donate their books.
Our Communications team, led by Jessica Faulkner is responsible for all our communications, covering media, social media, website, film and publications.
