World Book Day

World Book Day is a huge celebration of books. Across the UK and beyond, thousands of children, students, community groups and clubs take part in activities that focus on the joy of reading. World Book Day is a perfect opportunity to remember that in many parts of the world, children have little or no access to books and can’t develop their reading skills or derive pleasure from reading in the same way that we do. That’s why thousands of schools, clubs and community groups choose World Book Day as an opportunity to raise money for Book Aid International. Many children donate £1 to dress up as their favourite book character, others take part in readathons, competitions, book and bake sales. In 2015, schools raised over £115,000 to support our work – that’s enough for us to send over 55,000 brand new books to libraries that might otherwise have empty shelves.
