New books only please!

We can’t accept second-hand books, but you can still use your second-hand books to help share the power of books with people around the world.

Home Support us Donate books Donating second hand books

We’re grateful to anyone who thinks of donating books to us – so if that’s you, thank yo

Sadly we can’t accept second-hand book donations from any sources – even if they’re in great condition.

This is because of how we select and send books. We only send books at our partners’ requests, and by working with publishers we can make sure that we acquire the books that our partners need.

If you’re a publisher or bookseller with new books to donate, you can find out more here.

How you can still share the power of books

If you do have second-hand books and would like to support our work, why not consider holding a book sale in your community?

It’s easy to arrange, a great way to bring people together and the perfect excuse to eat cake! Every penny you raise will allow us to open more new reading spaces, train more teachers and, of course, send more books. For every £2 you raise, we can send a new book worth an average of £13.

Other places to donate books

Alternatively, there are other organisations that may be able to accept your books. Local charity shops will also sometimes accept donations of second-hand books.
